Renowned entrepreneur, writer, director, and composer, Nia Hill, continues to break new ground in the entertainment industry with her revolutionary distribution model, The Momentum Experience. As highlighted by NPR, this innovative approach is designed to empower black filmmakers by combining live theater performances with commercial film, providing them with greater control and ownership of their content.
Nia T. Hill’s journey began at the University of Oklahoma, where her passion for theater and promotion laid the foundation for her successful career. She first made her mark with The Solstice Group, a leading concert, theater promotion, and booking agency in the Southeast United States. In 1997, Hill co-founded Strange Fruit Media, a production company responsible for acclaimed television series such as “Sunday Best,” “The Family Crews,” “One Night Only,” “Exalted!,” and “Family Reunion.”
The Momentum Experience was born from Hill’s vision to create equitable opportunities for artists of color. By integrating live theater performances with commercial film, The Momentum Experience allows for the unique representation of underrepresented communities. This model has garnered significant support from industry icons like Will Smith, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Duane Martin, and Blair Underwood.
Hill’s accolades include an NAACP Image Award for Executive Producing the TV competition series “Sunday Best” and a GRAMMY Award for co-writing the hit song “Jesus,” performed by Le’Andria Johnson. Her recent project, “Nina Simone Presents: Ce’st Tout Absurde, A Coloured Ballet,” co-written with Nina Simone’s daughter, is set to premiere in Paris in Spring 2024, showcasing her artistic versatility and dedication to cultural representation.
Hill’s commitment to social justice is evident in her documentary “Colored My Mind,” which addresses the struggles of African American mothers raising autistic children. The film’s screening at the White House and its role in influencing legislative change highlight Hill’s impact beyond the entertainment industry.
Under her Bridge X Media banner, Hill has partnered with the estate of prolific author Octavia Butler and Academy Award-winning producer John Sloss to create “The Octaverse,” a transmedia studio poised to revolutionize storytelling.
